Douglas Dolfins Swim Team
2011-2012 ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Thanks to the hard work of our athletes, and the generous support of our team parents, coaches, partners and sponsors, the Douglas Dolfins Swim Team had a very successful 2011-2012 season. Among our many activities we:
-
Directly involved about 140 youth ages 5-18 from our local community – some via scholarships – in Carson Valley’s only nationally-accredited USA Swimming program.
-
Imparted life-long skills and benefits to all participants such as fitness, sportsmanship, water safety, teamwork, time management, physical and mental discipline, scholarship, and competitive swimming techniques.
-
Hosted three large 3-day swim meets and several smaller competitions, bringing about 1000 competitive swimmers and their families to our community from all over northern Nevada and California.
-
Brought 48 Dolfins athletes to Nevada State Swimming Championships, where we placed 3rd among 9 northern Nevada teams and 5th state-wide, with 1 State Champion, 4 top-3 finishers, and 11 individual finalists.
-
Took 11 Dolfins athletes to Junior Olympic Championships, 2 athletes to Pacific Zone All-stars, and 4 athletes to Far Western Championships.
-
Took 6 athletes to national Sectional Championships (a Dolfins record), and qualified 3 athletes for International Grand Prix competition (a Dolfins first).
-
Nine individual and 22 additional relay swimmers broke Carson Valley swimming records 93 times in various age-groups and events, some going back at least 18 years. Of 379 possible records, 72 (19%) are now from the 2011-2012 season.
-
Four Dolfins athletes clocked top-25 Pacific Swimming performances for their ages, with three in the top-10, among over 13,000 Pacific Swimming athletes.
-
One Dolfin clocked a National Top-10 performance by age and event, and another Dolfin was accepted to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team.
-
The Dolfins contributed to another undefeated Douglas High School Tigers swimming and diving team for 2012.
-
Two Dolfins athletes were selected to compete at Western Zone Age Group Championships in Colorado, and both came home with individual and relay gold.
-
Positioned some of our top graduating Seniors for college scholarship support.
